Pumpking Festival

Come spend the afternoon of October 9 with the Firefly House as we head to Butler’s Orchard in Germantown, MD to grab ourselves some pumpkins and enjoy the orchard’s Pumpkin Festival! The festival includes the pumpkin patch but also other activities like hayrides, a corn maze, hayloft jumping, and something they’re calling “giant slides.” Unfortunately, the pumpkin cannon won’t be available on our weekend…

The festival is $12 for entry and pumpkins are $0.65/lbs. The logistics are going to be a little complicated for this one. In order to get ourselves to Germantown, we’re going to need some volunteer drivers. How many? We won’t know until we have a good count of people. So, if you can drive, please let us know how many people you can take with you in the comments below.

The logistics for this one are a little complex. We’ll be meeting at the Rockville metro station on the red line at 1:00pm. Those who are driving can meet those who do not drive at the station, and since it’s a weekend, anyone not driving to the orchard can leave a vehicle at the station for free. From the Rockville station, we’ll continue about 25 minutes into Maryland to the orchard. Their festival ends at 5pm so we should be back to Rockville no later 5:30pm, though we can always decide to leave early from the orchard if we’ve had our fill of pumpkin-related fun.

There is food available at the festival, including vegetarian, but there was no mention of vegan options. There’s also sweets available, like caramel apples, if that’s your poison 🙂

The festival is weather dependent. If the weather is bad or threatening on October 9, we’ll contact the orchard to see if their activities will be happening that day. On October 9, we’ll contact everyone here and on Facebook to make sure that everyone is in the loop with respect to a “go or no-go” situation. If we can’t make this work on the 9th, we’ll look into simply rescheduling for subsequent weekends.
